|Paul is a founder member of Nova Ensemble and a freelance percussionist working principally in the area of contemporary music.|
In 1991, Paul was the recipient of an Australian Postgraduate Research Award, and travelled to San Diego to study with virtuoso percussion soloist, Steve Schick. He then spent five months in Latin America, where he attended the Folk Cuba workshops (Havana, Cuba) and Carnivale (Olinda, Brasil). In 1997, he travelled through Ghana/Burkina Faso/Mali, and Zimbabwe, furthering his study of percussion music of the world.
Paul is a founder-member member of Nova Ensemble, plays marimba/percussion with Continental Drift (world music), mallet percussion with his own group, Scope (original jazz), latin percussion for various groups and recording studios and works with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, including time as principal. He has a Master of Music degree from the University of Western Australia, where he now teaches percussion, and also teaches at the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music (Edith Cowan University).
Paul has just teamed up with guitarist, Craig Ogden, to form a trans-global duo, OgdenTanner, with a focus on tuned percussion (marimba/vibraphone) and guitar. Despite living in different hemispheres, OgdenTanner will regularly tour Australia and Europe and have been invited to record for Chandos Records.
